The Grill – Swiss music under the critical microscope
Friday 31 March 2017, 16:15 – 17:15
Moods @ Schiffbau

Many Swiss bands dream of success abroad, few achieve it. There are many reasons why an artists who is heaped with plaudits at home fails to make any headway abroad. Tastes may be different, fashions might clash, too many artists may be doing the same thing, or a band that profits from a hometown bonus in Switzerland simply doesn’t cut the mustard anywhere else.

In this event, a number of recent Swiss tracks will be analysed for their international potential by two experts from Germany. Jens Balzer and Petra Husemann-Renner. Balzer is a music journalist from Berlin who writes for Tages-Anzeiger’s arts supplement “Züritipp” and has on several occasions ruffled local feathers with his incorruptible criticism of inferior productions. Husemann-Renner is the CEO of Motor Music in Berlin. On the other side of the grill stands Swiss Music Export’s Jean Zuber. He will attempt to defend the honour of Swiss music-making in the face of an onslaught of brutal and perhaps not always fair international criticism.

The event will be chaired by Yann Cherix, editor Züritipp, Zurich
