Strong Swiss presence at this year’s Montreux Jazz Festival 3 – 18 July 2015

Tobias Preisig, Vein, Polar, Paralog and Gabriel Zufferey are amongst the Swiss artists lined-up in this year’s Montreux Jazz Festival program.

The Swiss Music Export-supported Swiss Vibes blog is presenting two nights at the picturesque location of Chateau de Chillon.

Friday 10 July, 21:00 Swiss Vibes – Tobias Preisig / Vein
Temporarily leaving his electro duo project Egopusher behind, violinist Tobias Preisig will be presenting a new solo program, his first ever. In the past, the enterprising and adventurous Preisig has always worked with groups or other individual musicians. Intriguingly, he will also be playing a Moog synth bass.

Vein, consisting of the brothers Michael and Florian Arbenz (piano and drums, respectively), and Thomas Lähns (bass), are showcasing a new selection of pieces under the banner of “From Summertime to Chamber Music Now”. Vein recently released an acclaimed album, “Jazz Talks”, a collaboration with the Brooklyn-based saxophonist Dave Liebman.

Saturday 11 July, 21:00 Swiss Vibes – Polar Solo / Paralog
The Irish-born, Geneva-based singer/songwriter Polar promises a “majestic solo guitar dialogue with le Chateau de Chillon”.

Paralog are an experimental jazz trio formed by pianist Gabriel Zufferey from Geneva, bassist Christoph Utzinger and the furiously versatile drummer Domi Chamsorn, both from the region of Berne. The trio, fresh from a residence at the Théatre de l’Oriental in Vevey, as well as Zufferey solo will be paying homage to the album Bill Evans recorded in Montreux.

As always, there are plenty of Swiss bands to enjoy either on the Park stage or in the Rock Cave. Special mention must go to Evelinn Trouble who will be playing songs from her new album (Rock Cave, 16 July), and to Closet Disco Queen who will be headlining a “Metal for Nepal” night (Rock Cave, 17 July).

As ever, the main Montreux program is littered with great and unmissable artists, including Portishead, Songhoy Blues, Anna Calvi and Kronos Quartet with Trio Da Kali.
