We Invented Paris release “Rocket Spaceship Thing”
February 14th sees the release of the sophomore album by music/arts collective We Invented Paris. Thanks to a successful crowd-funding campaign, the band was able to spend three intensely creative months recording the album in the idyllic and inspirational surroundings of a real, old-fashioned castle, Schloss Röhrsdorf near Dresden in the East of Germany.
We Invented Paris began in 2010 as a solo project by Flavian Graber. Until then, the singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Liestal near Basel had been recording and touring for several years with his first band, Megalomania. Encouraged by the friendly reception of a first solo EP recorded with Lovebugs-guitarist Thomas Rechenberger in 2009, Graber formed a loose collective of musicians and artists to give the new songs a more colourful and expansive setting. Passionately adhering to a multi-faceted do-it-yourself ethic, the band’s first six-week European tour was a highly successful experiment in couch-surfing. Since then, We Invented Paris have performed well over 200 concerts (including a good number of “home concerts” in fans’ sitting rooms). Their melodious blend of folk, pop and a hint of Arcade Fire, as presented on the self-titled debut album released in 2011, helped build up a large community of friends and – as they call it – “family”.
“Rocket Spaceship Thing” was produced by the band themselves, and is released on their own Spectacular Spectacular label. To support the album, We Invented Paris have lined up a 32-date tour of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
