Switzerland at its finest @ MaMA Event, Paris

Swiss Music Export at the MaMA Event, Paris, France; 16-18 October 2013.

Started in 2009 in Bourges, Parisian music fair MaMA relocated to the Pigalle district in 2010 and focuses on the French pop and rock market. For the first time, MaMA this year also hosts a three-day series of networking events. A wide variety of concerts, workshops, discussion forums and stalls are designed to facilitate communication between francophone and international music business professionals.

Swiss Music Export, in partnership with the FONDATION SUISA, will be hosting a “Swiss Business Mixer” event for the second time since 2012. Meet the Swiss MaMA-delegates, enjoy drinks and snacks and the live-performances of Swiss acts – OY and THE ANIMEN – the perfect mix of business, lunch and music.

Swiss artists appearing at MaMA, Paris, 2013

Mama Rosin, Wednesday 16 October @ La Cigale, 19.00 – 22.30h;
“Air Rytmo Night” with Moriarty and Christine Salem
Take the Cajun music of the American South, add a hefty dose of Punk attitude and blend in a host of other influences picked up in the course of years of travelling. That, in a nutshell, is the sound of Geneva-based trio Mama Rosin. Their last album was produced by one of their biggest fans – Jon Spencer of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Which says it all, really.

The Animen, Thursday, 17 October @ Le Dandy, 18.00 – 18.40h
They look like a cross between the Hollies and Franz Ferdinand, and they sound like it, too. Drawing from a seemingly bottomless well of joyously chiming guitar melodies and deadly choruses, the quintet from Carouge near Geneva also have a fine sense of humour – and they do know how to treat a ukulele right!

OY, Friday 18 October @ Le Divan du Monde, 19.00 – 22.45h;
with Shusheela Raman and Yasmin Hamdam
OY – aka Joy Frempong – is one of the most striking, original and courageous voices in Switzerland. Constantly experimenting in various fields of music, she has worked with Phall Fatale, Lauschangriff, Infinte Livez & Stade and Filewile. OY is Frempong alongside percussionist Lleluja-Ha, mixing up scraps of hip-hop with electronica, pop, funk, and West African influences, serving it all up with a beguiling sequence of images and videos.
