Swiss Music Export @ Reeperbahn Festival, Hamburg

Swiss Music Export at the Reeperbahn Festival, Hamburg, Germany; 25-28 September 2013

First held in 2006 as a purely musical event and expanded in 2009 to include a much broader arts and business conference program, the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg has swiftly established itself as one of the most important music business get-togethers in Europe, especially for the independent sector. More than 300 international newcomers representing all kinds of genres – including indie, pop, rock, folk, singer/songwriters, electro, hip hop, soul and jazz – will be performing live in 70 or so venues. On the business side, 2800 professionals in the fields of social media, games, mobiles, IT-design, marketing and music from 35 nations will be offered the opportunity to exchange views, predictions and strategies in a wide range of conferences, showcases, networking events, award ceremonies, parties, shows and special events.

Swiss Music Export, early supporters of the Reeperbahn Festival, will be presenting several events at this year’s 8th edition. First, there is the by now traditional “Swiss Business Mixer”. On Friday, 27 September, accompanied by a very Swiss cheese raclette and the requisite white wine to go with it, four Swiss bands will be showcasing their music and performance skills at Das Herz von St. Pauli. Earlier on the same day, at the same venue, SME will be hosting a „Contact Lounge“ where professionals will have the opportunity to meet the Swiss discuss ideas and issues face-to-face and one-to-one whilst enjoying a coffee or two, and a “Gipfeli” (a croissant, that is, only better).

Swiss Business Mixer @ Das Herz von St. Pauli, Spielbudenplatz, Hamburg
Friday, 27 September 2013, 14.00-18.00h.
Presented by: Swiss Music Export, RFV Basel, Fondation SUISA, the Swiss Embassy in Berlin

14.00h Doors open – raclette and wine
14.15h We Invented Paris
We Invented Paris, a collective of musicians, photographers, designers and film makers, were brought together in 2010 by Basel-based singer and songwriter Flavian Graber. Their chamber pop is both intense and spacious, a little bit reminiscent here and there of Arcade Fire or Dutch veterans the Nits. The band is at present working on their second album. http://www.weinventedparis.com
15.15h OY
OY – aka Joy Frempong – is one of the most striking and original voices in Switzerland. Constantly experimenting in various fields of music, she has worked with Phall Fatale, Lauschangriff, Infinte Livez & Stade and Filewile. OY is Frempong alongside percussionist Lleluja-Ha, mixing up scraps of hip-hop with electronica, pop, funk, and West African influences, serving it all up with a beguiling sequence of images and videos. http://www.oy-music.com
16.15h Dagobert
At first, Dagobert Jäger’s songs may sound uncomfortably like “Schlager”. Close up, however, they reveal many entirely un-schlager-like subtleties both in their lyrical content and their 1980s-style synth arrangements. http://www.dagobert-musik.de
17.15h Pegasus
Originally a modern version of several classic 1960s “beat combos” rolled into one, the quartet from Biel greatly extended their stylistic reach with their third album, Human Technology, released in 2011. Pegasus have recently been confirmed as the support band for Hurts’s European tour, starting in November. http://www.pegasustheband.com
