Zurich-born singer Lucia Cadotsch, winner of the ECHO Jazz Award 2017 for best vocalist of the year, has been invited to appear at the annual New York Winter Jazzfest 2018. Whatever your NY plans are that night, adjust them now!

Lucia Cadotsch was born into a musical family in Zurich in 1984. Inspired by her parents’ record collection, she discovered Miles Davis at an early age and went on to study as a singer at the Universität der Künste in Berlin and at the Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium Copenhagen. After several albums with Yellow Bird (Enja Records), Schneeweiss + Rosenrot (Enja) and the Lucerne Jazz Orchestra (Moontower Foundation), 2016 saw the release of the first album under her own name, Speak Low (Enja), followed a year later by “Speak Low Renditions”, a series of remixes of the original pieces. “Speak Low” was showered with praise across the jazz world, eliciting a five-star review from the British Newspaper The Guardian, plus a piece of advice: “Remember the name Lucia Cadotsch – you’re going to be hearing a lot of it”.

Lucia Cadotsch will appear in New York with her trio, also comprising Otis Sandsjö (tenor sax) and Petter Eldh (double bass). What makes their music so compelling is the fact that whilst it is deeply grounded in jazz history, it does not shy away from delving into the sound world of minimal music, improvisation and vocal experimentation. If this makes it sound difficult or even harsh to listen to – it is not! On the contrary. The eerie sound world the trio creates leaves a lot of space to the listener to drift with the ideas and be embraced by them. In other words – Lucia Cadotsch is totally unmissable wherever she appears!

Now in its thirteenth edition, the Winter Jazzfest NYC has firmly established a reputation as a goldmine for musical discoveries. With a line-up that combines well-known experimenters like Marc Ribot, Donny McCaslin, Buika, Deerhoof and Don Byron with the latest wave of international avant-gardists, this year’s festival is expected to attract an audience of around 10’000 music fans.
