When it was started in 1986, the Eurosonic Festival was an almost purely Dutch and Belgian affair. Since then it has grown to be one of the most important shop windows for the promotion of music from all over Europe. Last year, 35’000 visitors saw performances by 304 acts. 3250 music business professionals from 43 countries attended the conference part of the festival.
This year, Swiss Music Export is supporting three acts at Eurosonic : The Animen, Pablo Nouvelle and Kadebostany.

THE ANIMEN: 23.45 – 00.30h @ De Spieghel (upstairs room)
Geneva-based quintet the Animen are, first and foremost, great fun. With a guitar sound reminiscent of the Tornados and early Shadows, and songs inspired by the Kinks and the Who but also Pulp and Blur, the band has forged a sound steeped in “beat” music history, but also entirely their own. The Animen’s first single „My Pretty Ballerina“ was released on 13 January 2014 in Germany and Austria.

PABLO NOUVELLE: 21.30 – 22.15h @ Simplon (main)
“Nouvelle takes soul back to the future” wrote UK daily the Guardian a while back, and they weren’t wrong. Berne-based Pablo Nouvelle studied architecture before turning his mind to film and music. Using hip-hop production techniques with samples gleaned, for instance, from old Marvin Gaye records, he creates a resolutely modern music that is also deeply emotional and atmospheric.

KADEBOSTANY: 20.00 – 20.45h @ Grand Theatre (main)
In the beginning, there were six musicians from different parts of Europe, with violin, cello, piano, accordion, horns, guitar, banjo. Since then, Kadebostany have grown into one of the most exciting live bands in Switzerland. Fronted by sultry singer/rapper Amina, the band play the pop music of their imaginary home country of Kadebostan, a dynamic blend of beat-driven electronica, Balkan brass, an occasional guitar string, and the mood of a late night Parisian club, circa 1930. Served up with plenty of multi-media extras.
