Sophie Hunger documentary package „The Rules of Fire“ out December 6th
„Six years ago I played my first show at a small bar in a small city of a small country, Switzerland,“ writes Sophie Hunger. Six years later – as she continues – after having played hundreds of international shows and travelled thousands of kilometres, she felt the time had come to document her progress with a live recording and a documentary film.
The resulting package is entitled „The Rules of Fire“ and will be released on 6 December. It contains a 60 minute documentary film by French director Jeremiah (yes, just Jeremiah!), a concert recording with 23 songs, including three previously unreleased tracks, and a 48-page book with photographs and interviews. The title of the package derives from Sophie´s very own „ten rules of fire“ for the touring musician. Here are two of them: „Never accept invitations from people who adore you“ and „Never go on stage with a drink in your hand, or your hand in your pocket.“
Following a peripatetic upbringing in Berne, London, Bonn and Zurich, Emilie Jeanne-Sophie Welti was a member of several local bands in Zurich before shifting her perspective and releasing her debut album „Sketches on Sea“ under the newly invented name Sophie Hunger. This was in 2006. The commercial breakthrough for the singer/songwriter whom the football magician Eric Cantona calls „une fille magique“ came two years later with the album „Monday´s Ghost“. It reached the top of the Swiss charts with sales figures that earned Sophie a platinum disc. The two albums she has released since, „1983“ and „The Danger of Light“, consolidated her standing in Switzerland whilst also charting in Germany and Austria. She has extensively toured not just in Europe but also in Canada and the United States. Sophie´s success is all the more remarkable as her style is very much her own, and her path from a striking lyric to a memorable tune rarely follows the expected route.
To tie in with the release of „The Rules of Fire“, Sophie Hunger will be playing shows throughout December in Switzerland, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Luxembourg and the UK.
