Fiona Daniel Returns With “transitions”

It’s been a long wait, but here it is: Fiona Daniel’s “transitions”, available now via Klangfelder Records/Irascible. It is her next musical step, at long last, in a career that was temporarily derailed after “Backyard,” the previous album released thirteen years ago.
Fiona Daniel has always excelled at embedding her subtle and acute observations about emotional complexities in finely spun instrumental arrangements that radiated a rare sense of calm and strength. Waylaid by the need to care for two sick, young children, first, and then a severe problem with her own hearing, it’s been a long time since her voice was last heard in public. It becomes clear after the first few notes that Fiona’s music has lost none of its magic. Composed mostly on the piano and lightly dusted with field recordings from her surroundings in the French Swiss countryside, harp, cello, and the odd hint of synth and percussion help to create a beautifully uplifting sense of contentment and optimism, even when Fiona sings about the most difficult of times.
