The Wind is Picking Up for Joya Marleen

Out now via Epic Records is the eagerly awaited debut album from the exciting young chart-topper Joya Marleen. Entitled “the wind is picking up”, it is filled to the brim with catchy pop tunes and uplifting vibes. “I make pop music, but I don’t want it to sound shallow”, says Joya. “I always try to incorporate something into my songs that you haven’t heard before. A balance of soulful, danceable and edgy.”
Still only 21 years old, Joya is already something of a veteran in the Swiss pop universe. Having picked up three Swiss Music Awards three years ago pretty much on the basis of the number-one hit “Nightmare” (“Best Female Act”, “Best Hit”, and “SRF3 Best Talent”), she has been a welcome guest in a variety of television shows whilst at the same time honing her skill as a live performer on ever larger stages in Switzerland, Germany and Austria. She celebrates the release of “the wind is picking up” with an 18-date tour of the GAS countries in February, a number of festival performances in summer and an extensive European tour in the autumn.
Here she is, explaining the inspiration behind her songs: “For me, there is no “too ridiculous”, no “too romantic”, and no “too kitschy”. I give room to the most banal memories. I consider even the smallest little situations worth talking about. Sometimes, these may include a certain kind of sadness and melancholy. Like everything else, such feelings belong to our longing for a better understanding of the hidden forces that move our soul.”
