Esteban Rey Presents His „Journal of a Dream“
Much-travelled Venezuelan singer/songwriter Esteban Rey celebrates the arrival of his new project with the release of a new album. “Bitácora De Un Sueño” – “Journal of a Dream” – is available now.
Fifteen years ago, Esteban Reyes arrived in Barcelona and formed his first European band, Chamito Sound. Fusing various influences from all over the South American continent and the Caribbean, synths played an important part in that band which toured all over Europe, supporting the likes of Amparanoia, Hindi Zahra and Manu Chao. Having relocated to Switzerland and releasing three albums, he successfully established a strong live reputation which earned him shows at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Blue Balls Festival and many others.
His new, “solo” project, too, comes with a band. This time, however, the focus is more on accordion- and brass-flavoured Mexican mariachi (or, as the PR sheet has it, “tequila-infused Mexican mariachi”) blended with the odd rock guitar and drums, producing a smooth and mostly upbeat sound AOR/pop sound. Recorded in Mexico City with local musicians, Esteban Rey has, he says, one single mission: to connect with his audience and allow hearts to recognise themselves.
