Hermanos Gutiérrez Riding into Town on a „Sonido Cósmico“

Out now via Easy Eye Sound is album number six from Hermanos Gutiérrez, “Sonido Cósmico”. Once again produced by Dan “Black Keys” Auerbach, the album has already charted impressively in the UK, USA, Germany, Switzerland and other countries.

Born and raised near Zurich to a Swiss father and a mother from Ecuador, Estevan and Aléjandro Gutiérrez had no inkling that one day they would be in a “band” together until Estevan, aged 29, returned from a year spent with their mother’s family in Ecuador to find that his younger brother had learnt to play the guitar. One jam session led to another; a debut album released for their friends in a limited edition of 200 soon needed to be re-pressed; and after four albums in the space of five years they were signed up in 2022 by Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys for his boutique label Easy Eye Sound.

Influenced in by their grandfather’s collection of Ecuadorian music from the 1940s and 1950s, Argentinian malango (to which Estevan was introduced by a guitar teacher) as well as salsa and cumbia, their sparse and spacious instrumental music exudes a sense of meditative peacefulness, reminiscent occasionally of Ry Cooder’s and Calexico’s desert blues or Ennio Morricone’s wistful Western romanticism.
