Gloria Amelia Playing with Time
Having travelled the world and beyond, singer/songwriter Gloria Amelia has poured everything she has learnt on the road into the five songs that make up her new mini-LP. Entitled “Timelapse”, it was released on 21 April 2023 by Phonag Records.
Born in Tiny, a small town near Toronto, she returned to Switzerland with her Italian/Swiss parents and grew up in the Eastern part of the country. A landscape dominated by mountains can feel more than a little claustrophobic. Whether it was that, or a memory from her cradle in faraway Canada, Gloria Amelia soon spread her wings, spending a lot of time in the Americas and Asia, at one stage working in a women’s organisation in Northern India. Not even the release of her first solo record in 2018 kept her back in Switzerland. Within weeks, she was off again, spending six months in Australia and the Far East. Now, an entirely new experience has brought her back to her roots. Having become a mother, she feared her creative juices might have dried up. Pleading with her own creative instincts to gift her with fresh ideas for a song, she ended up with the lead track of “Timelapse”, “Call Me” – a plea to her own creative instincts to gift her with fresh ideas for a song. A smooth and creamy brand of pop is her forte, effortlessly dominated by a voice that oozes calm, reassurance, and a hint of adventure: “Hey, you, can we run away, honey…” runs a line in one of her songs, the super-catchy “Rules”.
