Mara all Lovéd-up
Following on from countless singles and EPs, Genevan hip-pop queen Mara has at last released her long-awaited debut album. Available via Maraina / Sony Music, it is entitled “Lovéland” and contains thirteen new tracks, all displaying Mara’s instantly recognisable blend of high-octane dance beats, deeply rhythmic vocal delivery and a very healthy dose of humour: “Magali – Point Cue Remix”, for instance, wouldn’t sound out of place on a Wet Leg 12inch single.
Soaking herself from an early age in all sounds Caribbean, Mara has always been happy with just one style of music – her own. An enthusiastic gig goer since her teenage years, she has toured throughout francophone Europe as a DJ and, for four years, presented a weekly Caribbean/Afro show on French public radio station Mouv’. Resolutely independent in her approach, she is in total charge of her career, including the design of record covers and her own record label. Similarly idiosyncratic, needless to say, is “Lovéland”, a joyful blend of ingredients from dancehall reggae to hip-hop and beyond, all designed to get those bodies on the dancefloor moving. Mara will appear live at festivals in Switzerland, France and Canada throughout the summer.
