«We Are Ava» Are Be-Side Themselves
Having hit the Swiss top 50 with their debut album “Inner Gardening” last autumn, electro-pop trio We Are Ava finish off 2022 with a new five-track EP. Entitled “B-Side”, it is released on Muve Records. Somewhat confusingly, we must admit, it does not actually contain a single “b-side” in old vinyl-days sense of the word – a track (often very good) to be found buried on the second side of a hit single. Instead, three of the five songs – Happy, Drifting, Ocean – have been released over the recent months as singles or as part of two- and three track bundles. “Happy” has already proved its worth as the band’s most popular live track.
Andy (drums), Nicola (keys) and Kim (vox) revel in the pleasures of a gigantic sound complete with thunderous handclaps and wailing synth violins to support Kim’s perfect contemporary pop voice. Formed four years ago, the creative leap they have made from their first EP three years ago is considerable. And they’re not just good at anthemic choruses, they can do visuals, too, as demonstrated with their debut album where every one of the eleven songs came with its own homemade video clip.
