Komet City Explode in a Firework of Creativity

No one could accuse Robin Girod of laziness. Once of the globetrotting Genevan cajun-anarchists Mama Rosin and the raucously Beefheartean Duck Duck Grey Duck, plus one half of Bandit Voyage as well as the founder of Cheptel Records, Girod aka Komet City, now finds himself in the middle of a deluge of creativity that is utterly mad even for him.

August saw the release of an album with the band Jax, “I’ve Found God in a Madonna”. In September, he followed this up with “Digital Reggae Party Vol. 1”. Now comes “Comme (Partie A)”, an album recorded with an old pal, the percussionist Augustin von Arx, and released via La Souterraine Records. Finally, 9 December 2022 sees the release on La Suisse Primitive Records of “Don’t Go to Strangers – a tribute to the Tulsa Sound under the loving light of J.J. Cale”. As with everything that Girod touches, all four records are suffused with a joyous streak of anarchic wit without ever selling the musical side of the project short. The J.J. Cale album – recorded with “friends” – in particular is a feast of spontaneous innovation. “On this record”, explains Girod, “you are confronted with ideas and personalities that relate to his work in a particular way, and thereby prevent…rust from taking over. Most of these individuals might be strangers to you. What links them are personal relations, certain sensibilities, and the love for J.J. Cale’s music. Listening, you witness how they try to relate to Cale’s work and his way of making music.”
