The Swiss Checking In at Linecheck

Linecheck is back. Situated at the heart of Northern Italy’s fashion and industry metropole, Linecheck offers a unique platform for a dialogue between the musical cultures of Central Europe and the Mediterranean.

Defining its Covid-enforced absence from our calendar as an “Exile”, the festival’s return to Milan is very much celebrated as such, coming to us under the banner of “In Exile”. How can we reappropriate the land – territorial or metaphorical – that we have been driven out of? ask the introductory notes on the festival’s homepage. Their answer: “Building a community together, sharing its values and rejecting its rules. The challenge after exile is this: to take back the tools and spaces that feed our talent by steering development, each of us according to our own spiritual make-up and essence, amid the ever-changing soundtrack of our reality.”

As Linecheck’s aims are very much in harmony with our own philosophy here at Swiss Music Export, we wouldn’t want to miss out on this event. To this end, in cooperation with the Consulate General of Switzerland in Milano, FONDATION SUISA, and Sonart, we are once again co-presenting a Swiss Music Mixer, complete with our legendary raclette, wine and DJ set from Bongo Joe Records.

Swiss Business Mixer
Thursday 24 November 2022
BASE Milano – Linecheck X
Via Bergognone 34
18:30 – 20:00

All accredited music business professionals are cordially invited to come along to the party and register here. And another thing: Swiss professionals can book their festival badge at a whopping 40% discount off the regular cost of Euro 88 from here.

We are also very happy to report that quite a few Swiss acts are featured in this year’s Linecheck programme:

Cyril Cyril
Wednesday, 23 November 2022
Ground Hall
22:30 – 23:30

Cyril Cyril’s last album was called “Yallah Mickey Mouse” which admirably sums up a style that hovers between classic desert blues and a modernist trance version of Californian sixties mavericks, Kaleidoscope.

Tatum Rush
Thursday, 24 November 2022
La Capsula
22:00 – 22:30

Much-travelled Tatum Rush is celebrating the release of a brand-new album, “Villa Tatum”. It’s his first featuring Italian lyrics throughout. Blending Californian-style R&B and an Italian ear for melody with ingredients hand-picked from clubs all over Europe, Tatum can be safely relied upon to fire up those dancing feet.

-OUS Label Showcase
Friday, 25 November 2022
La Capsula
22:20 – 03:00

The showcase offers a veritable smorgasbord of cutting-edge experimental music from Zurich-based -OUS Label with performances from Feldermelder, Noémi BüchiIOKOIFurtherset and Slon.

-OUS Label is an internationally renowned experimental label co-founded by musician and installation artist IOKOI, aka Mara Miccichè, and based in Zurich. Having completed an MA in Pop from the Zurich University of the Arts, she was artist in residence at Moods in Zurich and received the Aïda Alliman Prize in 2017. She has improvised live-soundtracks to silent movies in various formations and toured South America and China multiple times with the Institute for Incoherent Cinematography. Her latest album, “Tales of Another Felt Sense of Self”, was released via -OUS Label in spring 2021 as a multi-disciplinary work mixing music and video with olfactory and visual arts. Here’s what London-based Wire magazine had to say about the album: “Even during the sections of low-key introspection, such as the ruminative piano of „Bloody Life“, the record never lags – your attention is always held by the feeling that something sinister is about to happen.”
