Disco Doom Climbing Mount Surreal

“Mt. Surreal” is the first new studio album from Disco Doom for fully eight years. It was released on 16 September 2022 by the legendary New York City-Based record label, Exploding in Sound, and Defer Records. The two core members of Disco Doom, Anita Rufer and Gabriele De Mario, were joined in the studio by ace guests Flo Götte (bass), Domi Chansorn (drums), Mario Kummer (drums) and Matthias Vetter (bass).

Taking their cue from the likes of Television, Dinosaur Jr. and Pavement, Disco Doom have followed a strange, though most definitely intriguing, path since their inception well over two decades ago. Strangely reticent about stepping into any kind of limelight that isn’t connected with a concert stage, the band has nevertheless built a substantial following in the United States. This goes back to their early days when they somehow managed to get themselves a support gig on a US tour by cult indie rockers Built to Spill. The Americans enjoyed their support act so much they invited them along on several tours afterwards, including an extended trek through Europe.

To coincide the release of “Mt. Surreal”, Disco Doom were about to embark on another lengthy US tour. Alas, unexpected delays with their visas have necessitated the postponement of the dates until early next year.
