Observations and Descriptions from Honey for Petzi
“Observations + Descriptions” is album number eight from the fabulous post-rock trio Honey for Petzi from Lausanne. It was released as a CD as well as digitally on 8 April by Two Gentlemen Records. The vinyl version will follow on 22 April. It contains the band’s first new material after an eleven-year hiatus. Somewhat more direct in melody, though no less poly-rhythmically complex than what’s gone before, “Observations + Descriptions” serves up a strikingly original fusion of electronic and analogue instruments, plus – for the first time – lyrics sung mostly in French.
Here’s what the band has to say about the creation of the album: “The writing of ‚Observations + Descriptions‘ was spread out over 2019 and 2020. The 12 songs for this new album were made in short sessions during which we composed and recorded directly afterwards. Everything was done in our rehearsal room with minimal resources. That’s what makes the sound of the record a bit more raw than our previous albums. Musically it’s more « pop » – we deliberately explored songs with identifiable verses/choruses and polyrhythmic + melodic structures”.
