Kush K Capture “Your Humming”
Barely eighteen months on from their extraordinary debut, the Zurich-based quintet Kush K are back with an equally mesmerising follow-up album. It is called “Your Humming” and was released on 3 September 2021 by BlauBlau Records.
Kush K – the name derived from their principal voice/songwriter Catia Lanfranchi’s pseudonym Kush Khazeela – were just about to take off. Their first album “Lotophagi” had won the Indiesuisse “Album of the Year” award, and the band were scheduled to play at the Great Escape festival 2020 in Brighton. And then, lockdown struck. Frustrated, yes, but also undaunted, Catia Lanfranchi and her crew battened down the hatches and, once again with producer/percussionist Domi Chansorn, recorded this, their second album. With a list of instruments that includes organ, flugelhorn, synth and plenty other implements, the band weaves a beguiling post-chamber-rock tapestry of subtly textured melodies, underpinned by rhythms that are never quite as straight-forward as they might seem. And it’s all beautifully held together by Lanfranchi’s gauze-like voice.
