/A\ super group!

18 June 2021 sees the release of /A\, the debut album of a new super group, also called /A\, via Two Gentlemen / Hummus Records. /A\ are Franz Treichler, Emilie Zoé and Nicolas Pittet.

Franz Treichler is the founder and the voice of The Young Gods, the pioneering sampler/drums/voice trio quoted as influences by the likes of Trent Reznor and David Bowie. Emilie Zoé is a singer/songwriter whose fiercely honest songs can go from a tender whisper to a visceral howl in a beat. Nicolas Pittet, finally, is not just the drummer in Emilie Zoé’s band but a seriously innovative musician just as much at home with spacious Lee Perry-style dub excursions and atmospheric post-rock (as demonstrated by his other outfit, Kera).

/A\ came into being thanks to a commission by a festival, Les Transphoniques, in Saint-Imier, a small town in the French-speaking part of canton Berne. Unfortunately, the festival fell victim to the Corona virus but an initial series of jam sessions recorded in summer 2020 were too good to be binned. The resulting album shows all participants from a fresh as well as unexpected post-rock perspective. “We refrained from defining any rules whatsoever”, they say, “and we successfully managed to resist the temptation of descending into a mutual admiration society.”
