Sinplus Breaking the Rules

“This is the first album we’ve ever recorded”, say Sinplus, “that sounds exactly like what we wanted from the very beginning: Rock and Roll.” It is their fourth, and it is called “Break the Rules”. It was released on 7 May 2021 by Kobalt/Awal.
Sinplus are the Broggini brothers, Gabriel (vocals), and Ivan (guitar). Born and raised in Locarno, in the Italian South of Switzerland, they have spent a lot of time lately in the United States. Produced in Nashville by JT Daly, “Break the Rules” marks a clear departure from their earlier mainstream sound (epitomised by their appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012). There are no more power ballads now and no more Simple Minds-type choruses. Instead, Gabriel appears to have located the hidden Iggy Pop in his voice, and his brother’s guitar has become considerably sharper. Oh, and there’s even a hint of Psychedelic Furs and the Cure, which truly can never be a bad thing.
