77 Bombay Street ready to take on France
77 Bombay Street make a hotly anticipated return to Paris for their own headlining show at La Maroquinerie on 31 January. The show follows the first physical release three days earlier of their debut album Up In The Sky in France.
77 Bombay Street are not new to Paris. In 2012, the four Buchli brothers from the canton of Grisons, Matt, Joe, Esra und Simri-Ramon, played three concerts in the French capital, including one show during the Fete de la Musique in the gardens of the Palais Royal in front of a crowd of 3000.
2012 was a crazy year for the band. Following the massive success in Switzerland of Up In The Sky – 70’000 copies sold, double platinum – they headlined their own tour of Switzerland, selling out bigger and bigger venues. They travelled to Germany, England, France, Italy, Sweden and Holland for more concerts, and still found time to write eighty new songs from which they chose the best for their second album, Oko Town. Released in Switzerland in October 2012, Oko Town has proved to be just as successful as the predecessor, reaching number one in the album charts – in January 2013 the album still hasn’t vacated the top 20. „Our music brings together the lightness of folk, the gravity of serious song writing, and a healthy dose of humour,“ says Matt Buchli on behalf of his brothers. It is a mixture that perfectly fits the zeitgeist, alongside the likes of Mumford & Sons, The Lumineeres and the Avett Brothers.
To coincide with 77 Bombay Street’s concert at La Maroquinerie, they will for the first time release a physical version of the band’s debut album Up In The Sky in France.
