Switzerland compiled
Designed to reflect the strong and diverse influence immigration has brought to bear on the musical culture of Switzerland, “World VI” was curated by Roberto Haçaturyan from artlink, a Berne-based organisation coordinating artists and projects with roots in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe who are based in Switzerland.
“World VI” offers a hugely enjoyable selection of seventeen tracks, reflecting a massive variety of styles. The contributions range from Muthoni Drummer Queen’s afro-hip-hop to Ala Ferka, a collaboration between the Swiss accordionist Patricia Draeger and Egyptian musicians. Other highlights in a collection of only highlights are Pablo Nouvelle’s soul-techno duet with Angélique Kidjo, Los Orioles’ punk cumbia from Biel, Flexfab’s encounter with Kenyan rapper Ziller Bas, and the Albanian/Swiss singer Elena Duni’s collaboration with London-based guitarist Rob Luft.
The latest in an ongoing series of compilation albums jointly sponsored by Pro Helvetia and Fondation SUISA, “World VI”, can now be streamed via swissmusic.ch (click on „Listen“).
