Let’s Yalla again!
Quite possibly Geneva’s most idiosyncratic outfit of the moment, Yalla Miku follow up their mind-melting 2023 debut with volume two, entitled, naturally, “Yalla Miku- 2”. As the group is led by the two Cyrils, Bondi (drums) and Yeterian, co-founder of the trend-setting inner city record shop/bar/café/studio/live venue Bongo Joe, it comes as no surprise that the album sports the logo of Bongo Joe Records logo.
Providing an exhilarating blend of Afrofunk, Northern and Eastern African pop, dub and disco, tinged with plenty of psychedelic derangement and post-punk attitude, the multi-national Yalla Miku truly sound like no one else around. Having undergone a reshuffle, Cyril and Cyril are joined here by three new voices: Samuel Ades (also on Ethiopian krar), Emma Souharce (synths) and Louise Knobil (bass).
