Cori Nora Brings Focus to Pleasure

Following up her 2023 album “Flowers and Fences”, singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist Cori Nora once again goes for a two-pronged thematic approach: “Pleasure and Focus” is available now from Irascible.

This time around, the much-travelled artist “wanted to tap into that collective energy – music as a raw and honest form of expression, an imprint of the moment”. To this end, she chose to record everything live, with the whole band assembled for one week at ARDA Recorders in the Portuguese city of Porto. A little less folky than her debut, the singer draws on a broad palette of influences that takes in Kurt Vile (one track is entitled “Kurt Vibe”), off-kilter pop and rock as well her brother Christoph Huber’s unusual, textural saxophone playing. This from her press release: “Writing these songs felt like coming home to myself again. I’ve moved a lot over the past six years, lived in different cities and countries, explored alternative forms of living and relationships. Along the way, there was heartbreak and doubt, toxic relationships – but also joy, deep connection, beauty, and healing. That’s what I sing about.”
