Is Dennis Kiss Confused?
Brand new from popup-records comes the latest offering from Dennis Kiss. After previously waxing lyrical about the attractions of the small ferry port “Norddeich Mole”, the Swiss expat singer/songwriter has now immersed himself in the darkness of Hamburg’s night life. If the album title is anything to go by – “Vielleicht für ein paar Stunden, doch ich bin nicht diese Person” (“Maybe for a few hours, but I’m not this person”), the experience seems to have had a somewhat baffling effect on our Dennis.
Nurtured by the lively music scene of Baden, a small town near Zurich, Dennis Kiss enjoyed some singles success with the indie band Dennis Kiss & The Sleepers. After the underwhelming response to their one album, Kiss drifted this way and that, ending up in Hamburg. Here, apart from finding a spiritual home in the attitudes and life style of Northern Germany, he also discovered the joys of writing songs in German. Now hailed as a leading light of a “Neue Hamburger Schule” (a new Hamburg school, taking plenty of inspiration from the original, 1990s “Halburger Schule”) by the likes of German Rolling Stone, this, his second German album was produced by Hannes Wolf with the classic storytelling-indie line-up of guitar, bass, drums and keyboard.
