Akryl Intends to Hold Up Time

“Wenn ich gross bin will ich alles werden ausser alt” – yes, this is the full title of singer/songwriter Akryl’s first EP, self-released in September. In English: “When I grow big, I want to become everything except old”. The mysterious and somewhat paradoxical title is a good pointer to the nature of Akryl’s art. Her songs are all beautifully arranged with all sorts of subtle extra noises, brass lines whilst her unhurried vocal style oozes a slightly wistful kind of calmness.
Previously known as LYNN, the new name indicates an intriguing change of artistic approach. Born twenty-five years ago and raised in St. Gallen to parents from Madagascar, Akryl first appeared on a stage as a child, playing a dancing mosquito in an opera in Theater St.Gallen. Playing piano from an early age, she found her voice as a songwriter during her teenage years. Taking part in various workshops and songwriting classes, and touring under her previous name, in 2023 she switched to German lyrics and created Acryl, a stage persona she describes as “half pixellated self, half fictional character”. “Wenn ich gross bin will ich alles werden ausser alt” is a beautiful, subtle and innovative collection of songs that offers a massive promise for the future.
