Namaka’s Head Is in the Clouds

Entitled “Cloudspotting”, Namaka’s new album is available now from Moutwatering Records. It is the follow-up to the synth-pop duo’s highly praised debut album “Restore” from four years ago. Recorded on 4-track cassette recorder and laptop in and between Zurich and Brussels, Philippe and Sophie are just as interested in textures as melodies. Citing Tirzah, Mica Levi, Björk, Nabihah Iqbal and Elliot Smith as inspirations, they like to subvert their beautifully atmospheric and subtly detailed tracks with violently contrary beats and warmly nourishing bass riffs.

Namaka, by the way, is, according to Wikipedia, the name of a small, inner moon of the “trans-Neptunian dwarf planet Haumea”. Which was in turn named after a Hawaiian water spirit “born from the body of the fertility goddess Haumea”.
