Monumental and the Art of Liking Oneself

Newly released by Mouthwatering Records comes Monumental’s debut album, “When I Liked Myself Just a Little Too Much”. Here’s what the press release has to say about it: “This is music for the overthinkers. The under-sleepers. The people who fee too much and dance away.” Not to be confused with the young British indie band of the same name, Monumental is a whispery- and often falsetto-voiced singer/songwriter who delights in weaving tightly meshed synth textures rich with detail and beats borrowed from the dance floor. What makes this album so alluring is the fact that, given the ingredients, it could be very loud indeed. Instead, it feels quietly ruminative even when turned up to eleven.
