Eluveitie Re-Emerging

Six years after their last album, Eluveitie, purveyors of an Alpine version of – deep breath – Celtic melodic death metal folk, re-emerge with a collection of twelve new songs. Entitled “Anv”, it was released by Nuclear Blast Records and has already cracked the top 20 in Germany.
Originally launched in Winterthur as a studio project by multi-instrumentalist and “unclean vocalist” (says Wikipedia) Chrigel Glanzmann, Eluveitie soon proved successful enough to be turned into a band proper. Starting off as a ten-piece, their live shows were – are! – spectacular, turning the band into one of the longest-lasting, continuously creative outfits in Switzerland. Now down to a seven-piece whose list of instruments includes violin, hurdy-gurdy, pipes, bodhran, harp, sitar, plus the usual guitars and drums, they continue to mix to seriously powerful effect raucous and growly metal passages, big and beautiful power ballads sung by Fabienne Erni, and walls-of-sound traditional Celtic folk instrumentals.
