Stahlberger Contemplating the Night

Hey, here’s the new one from Stahlberger! It’s called “Immer dur Nächt“ and available from Stahlberger/Irascible.

A crystal-sharp observer of everyday life in Switzerland, multiple-award-winning poet/songwriter/comedian/cartoonist Manuel Stahlberger has managed to do the impossible: he has turned the dialect of his native St. Gallen, a small town in the Northeast of Switzerland, from the ugly and totally unsingable duckling of Swiss-German dialects into the perfect medium for his super-laconic delivery. Supported by a band that is always up for an experiment – it contains Dominik “Lord” Kesseli on drums and Bit-Tuner aka Marcel Gschwend on bass and synth, Christian Kesseli on guitar and synthesizer and Michael Gallusser on guitar and keys –, Stahlberger’s music has moved farther and farther away from conventional song structure over the past two or three albums.  At the same time, his voice has become a musical instrument in itself, making the whole package absolutely worth listening to by audiences unfamiliar with Swiss German.

Once again produced by Olaf Opal (The Notwist, Die Sterne, International Music), Stahlberger have delved deeper into the rock-rhythmic realms of Krautrock. This is how Kesseli describes it: “We generate a musical cloud that lets you float along free from rigid metronome structures”.
