Sivilian Reliving his Growing Pains

Newly signed to Phonag Records, singer/songwriter/visual artist Sivilian celebrates a new perspective on life with the release of a five-track EP, “Growing Up Hurts”.

Music has been an essential part of Adrian Graf’s life since he discovered Britney’s “Oops…I did it Again” in a local CD shop. Growing up in a small village in the Bernese Oberland left him with plenty of time on his hands to also explore his parents’ collection of ABBA, Queen and Creedence Clearwater Revival records. Joining a school band was a matter of course, followed, in 2013, by a folk-pop band that made it as far as playing the big Gurten Festival. It took Covid, however, to convince him to go it alone as Sivilian and record a debut-single complete with video by himself. The experience led him to turn down a lucrative job offer in Berlin, return to his parents’ village and devote himself entirely to music.

Listing Lorde, Holly Humberstone, and Troye as today’s influences, “Growing Up Hurts” serves up a summery selection of synth-pop, garnished with a warm voice that sings of difficult emotions with a pleasingly light touch. “The project tells the story of my coming-of-age”, Sivilian writes, “full of ups and downs, doubts, and discoveries. Finding oneself can sometimes hurt. These five songs narrate from different perspectives how I view my youth today.”
