Philipp Fankhauser Back on the Blues Track

Returning from a serious health scare, Switzerland’s most popular blues artist, returns with his freshest collection yet. “Ain’t That Something”, released by Funk House Blues Productions, is his eighteenth album. Only Lady Gaga’s return to form prevented it from hitting the very top of the Swiss album charts.
Recovering from a stem cell transplant with extraordinary speed, Philipp Fankhauser war raring to return to his favourite place – the stage. Before that, though, he wanted to record the album he had been pondering for quite a while. Keen not to waste any more time after a year weighed down with worries and exhaustion, he and his band decided to hit the studio virtually unprepared. Setting up their gear in Limoux in the South of France, and guided by producer Kent Bruce from the Malaco Studios in Jackson, Mississippi, they approached the recording process “song by song”. Additional recordings took place at Malaco and Muscle Shoals in Alabama with guests including veteran singer Bobby Rush, Zydeco singer/accordionist Geno Delafose and vocal trio The Shoals Sisters. The resulting collection of songs – including fine versions of Elvis’s “In the Ghetto” and J.J. Cale’s “After Midnight – is easily Philipp’s most satisfyingly diverse set of tracks, and one of the freshest-sounding albums of his career.
