Is Hilke Angry Enough?

Hilke is the second artist this month, alongside Giulia Dabalà, to explore female anger as a positive force. Her new album “Am I Angry Enough” is released via Red Brick Records.
Inspired by her participation in a feminist strike march in Zurich, Hilke – in a previous life the double and synth bass player with the Belgian post-rock band Amatorski –, began to analyse and question her attitude to anger from a transfeminine point of view. This, after she had vividly articulated her rejection of male rage as a violently anti-creative form of behaviour on her debut solo album. “Am I angry enough? Am I loud enough? Am I angry enough? This is what I unlearned to be”, she sings in “loud”. Composing these songs in a former hotel in the Swiss alps, Hilke was forced to work without her piano, creating instead a set of (mostly) quiet ambient soundscapes which resonate beautifully with her eerie voice and the questions she asks. Guests Hannah Adriana Müller, GINA ÉTÉ and Mario Hänni add an occasional touch of violin, viola and drums.
