Theylovepiet Feeling “Trapped In Germany”

Fresh from the well-connected Swiss trap/hip-hop label Planet Empire Records comes “Trapped In Germany”, the new album from Theylovepiet. It is his second after “The Pre-intro” in 2021. He has been anything but idle since then, however, building up a strong reputation as an original voice with the release of well over two dozen singles.

Born in Takoradi, a small industrial town in Western Ghana, Nuhu Pieterson Mensah was brought to Switzerland by his mother as a seven-year old. “I knew I had to grow up fast because I didn’t have any choice”, he writes on Instagram, “3 siblings I gotta teach and take care of, dealed with my own problems in life matterfact back in the days no one liked me …” (sic).

“Trapped In Germany” (get the “joke”?) offers a supremely confident, atmospheric and multi-lingual selection of trap/hip-hop tracks exploring the themes like personal identity, ambition, and the struggle for an artistic voice. An impressive number of mostly German guest voices including TM, Ezco 44, Sosa Kriminell and Robin Rozay add their own spice to the musical stew.
