Kush K Booking in for “Drum Therapy”

A gloriously warm-hearted and mysterious treat for cold January days, Kush K’s latest EP “Drum Therapy” is available now from Irascible Records.

Fronted by the singer, Catia Lanfranchi, and drawing on a large reservoir of instruments that includes organ, flugelhorn and synth, the quartet (Paul Amereller, Fiona Fiasco and Jonas Albrecht) from Zurich weaves a beguiling post-chamber-rock tapestry of subtly textured melodies, underpinned by rhythms that are never quite as straight-forward as they might seem. Winning the IndieSuisse “Album of the Year” award for their debut album “Lotophagi” (2020), the band, instead of sticking to a tried and tested formula, hasn’t stopped experimenting ever since.

Recorded in Sardinia and Switzerland, the seven tracks that constitute Kush K’s intriguingly nebulous and refreshingly unrushed “Drum Theory” are sometimes barely more than a whisper. At other times they draw us into their quiet, ambient intensity like a lone candle in a house full of mysterious shadows. Truly, Kush K have arrived at a sound like no other.
