Mount Jacinto Discover a Silver Lining

Fronted by Costa Rican singer and guitarist Sonya Carmona, Mount Jacinto also include Annie Taylor’s Gini Jungi on guitar, drummer Adrian Oesch and Joel Morales on bass. After a handful of EPs, “Silver Lining” is their debut album. It is available on Taxi Gauche Records.

Nomen est omen, as they say. When, in the middle of a period of a fundamental personal transformation, Sonya Carmona arrived in Palm Springs and discovered Mount San Jacinto – an impressive peak towering over the Mount San Jacinto State Park –, she saw in it the embodiment of what her next musical project should represent: a sense of freedom and openness, inspired by Californian music from the 1960s and 1970s, and seen through the lens of today. The influence of Fleetwood Mac, Jefferson Airplane and, maybe, Sky Cries Mary, clearly shimmers through on a powerful album that documents Carmona’s personal struggles in recent years as well as the positive outcome to thrillingly psychedelic effect.
