Julia Alexa Delivers Bandaids
Out now is “bandaids”, a new EP from 23-year-old Zurich-based singer/songwriter, producer and you-tuber Julia Alexa. Containing no fewer than ten songs, it practically qualifies as the follow up to her debut album “I Want to Live Forever When I Die”, released as recently as November 2023.
Having started to take piano lessons aged seven, Julia Alexa switched her focus to vocals six years later. Getting truly hooked on music after her father had installed Garageband on her computer, she soon spent endless hours trying out different styles and sounds. Discovering Billy Eilish in summer 2017, she says, gave her the idea that it might be possible for her, too, to record her songs alone in her bedroom and reach an audience. “Every time I’m bored, sad or lonely I write down lyrics that explain what I’m feeling at the moment and it helps me to express my feelings in a poetic way”, she explained to the Cliché Teen Journal Blog. As is only natural for a singer to whom music serves as diary as well as therapy, Julia Alexa’s songs deal with problems of heart, mind and soul. Blessed with a voice that floats mist-like over similarly weightless electronic keyboards, Alexa’s music, despite the “heavy” topics, sounds nothing like a nightmare – on the contrary, its dreamlike quality creates a positively romantic mood.
