Benjamin Amaru Dreaming Forever

Rarely has a debut album from a Swiss artist been more hotly anticipated than that of Zurich-based singer/songwriter Benjamin Amaru. Having independently released no fewer than 80 singles over the past six years, he amassed 30 million streams in 2023 alone. Entitled “i always remember all of my dreams”, the album is available now via Warner Music Germany – and it offers ample proof that the massive expectations Amaru has raised mostly via social media and the odd performance, have not been misplaced.

Growing up in the green hills of Eastern Switzerland with an Iranian mother and a Swiss father, and the family spending long periods of time in the USA, Benjamin Amaru became familiar with the concept of different cultures, languages and perspectives at an early age. Openness and flexibility continue to inform his approach to music today. Working extremely fast, ready to embrace any idea that comes to him, and in no way encumbered with notions of perfection, up to now, he has released his singles virtually the moment they were recorded.

Speedy work and a refusal to take part in conventional promo rituals were partly necessitated by Amaru’s “day-job” as a student. Now a fully-fledged gastronomy expert, he is at last free to spend all his time and energy on music. With “i always remember all of my dreams”, he not only delivers a truly excellent collection of songs but also a massive promise for the future. Combining a warmly flexible voice and with dreamy, electronica- and guitar-based instrumental backings with a knack for super- catchy melodies, his openness to experiment also produces a remarkably and satisfyingly varied palette of styles.
