Evelinn Trouble Marking Her Seasons

Entitled “Season Indicators”, Evelinn Trouble’s sixth full-length album is out now on Mouthwatering Records. One of the most courageous and innovative artists in Switzerland, Trouble has once again found a new way of approaching the process of writing and recording songs. Having taken six years to complete her previous album, this time round she decided to try and tame her perfectionist tendencies. Starting from August 2023, she pledged to release a new song every six weeks. “With the regular deadlines on Season Indicators I’ve had to learn to let go and trust my songs, no matter their current state.”

“Season Indicators” offers a remarkably wide range of styles, clearly reflecting Trouble’s state of mind during the few weeks of their gestation. Big French chansons like “Jamais”, slow-burning guitar ruminations like “Walls”, electronic walls of sound like “A Name”, and gorgeous choruses like that of “Oh Life” (a song that somehow manages to feel profoundly life-affirming even whilst dealing with a sadness so deep that “I don’t want to be”) are all part of Trouble’s musical and emotional repertory. There’s even room for a couple of duets with Dino Brandao and Faber. Recorded loud, clear and upfront, her voice has never sounded better – and her ear for a wonderful melody remains undimmed. Working in a rush has clearly turned into a liberating experience for Evelinn Trouble.
