Tobias Jensen Says How It Is

After years of quietly beavering away behind the scenes, singer/songwriter Tobias Jensen is ready at last for his own future. Out now on Musikvertrieb AG’s muve recordings is his debut album, entitled “What Needs to Be Said”. The twelve tracks, all carried by beautifully mellifluous melodies and Tobias’s supremely calm and quietly dramatic vocals, somehow simultaneously manage to deliver the catchiness of a memorable pop song and the space for unhurried flights of thought. Sprinkled across the album is a handful of atmospheric instrumental tracks – a move that is rather reminiscent of Nick Drake’s “Bryter Layter” album. In fact, whilst Drake’s album contains a song called “Northern Sky”, one of Jensen’s instrumental interludes is entitled “Northern Winds”. Coincidence?

Tobias’s musical career began as a dogsbody in a recording studio in Zurich. On the side, he discovered a talent for co-writing songs which led to credits on records by the likes of Nemo, Pegasus’s Noah Veraguth, CRIMER or Remo Forrer. For his own album he locked himself away in a cabin by the sea in Denmark and did nothing else for three whole months but write songs. The best twelve are “What Needs to Be Said”.
