Faber Sings „Addio“ But Means „Hello!“

12 June 2024 sees the release via Vertigo Berlin a long-awaited new studio album from Faber.

“Addio” follows two years after the career-spanning live double-LP “Orpheum”, four after “Ich liebe dich” with Sophie Hunger and Dino Brandão, and fully five years after his last solo album proper. Fear not, however! One of the most original and successful Swiss voices of the past decade is not about to retire. On the contrary, as he explained in a recent interview in Germany: “It is more like a goodbye to a certain phase of development. The record tells the story of an upheaval. The requiem is followed by a re-birth, an artistic re-incarnation.” Other than that, as regards the context of “Addio”, Faber and his record company keep their cards very close to their chest, stating that the record won’t be accompanied by a press release as they wish the music to “speak for itself”. Well, we’ve heard the album and we can safely say that it comes with lusciously textured instrumental as well as choir (yes, choir!) arrangements that often delve into classical, even church, traditions. Faber himself, singing in Swiss and High German as well as Italian, has never sounded more dynamic and intense before. He celebrates the release of the album with a 28-date tour of the GAS countries that will take him deep into September. He will be accompanied by an expanded band that includes cello, trombone, violin and viola as well as several vocalists including Gina Eté, Dino Brandão and Mel D.
