Fomies Experiencing “Sudden Lag”

“Sudden Lag” is a rather odd title to choose for an album that clearly demonstrates a band’s remarkable progress in the last couple of years! Released on 21 October 2022 via Hummus/Irascible, the Vevey-based quintet’s third LP produces a volcanic eruption of synth-laced psychedelic guitar rock, with a hint of art rock and glam thrown in. The band’s self-description is amusingly short, and yet perfectly to the point: “Great followers of the D.I.Y., Fomies is a garage-fuzz band mainly inspired by obscure records badly recorded in weird places.” Actually, “Sudden Lag” isn’t at all badly recorded (at Grand Biolay in France). As a bonus, the CD as well as the “light green opaque” vinyl version are housed in a truly striking, also rather volcanic-looking sleeve.
