Leoni Leoni Celebrates Her Debut Album

3 June 2022 sees the release of “Leoni Leoni”, the debut album proper – after four long-playing cassettes! – of the Bernese artist, Leoni Leoni, via the super-trusty folks at Les Disques Bongo Joe.

Leoni Leoni – aka New York New York – hadn’t even reached her teenage years when she began to experiment with her own sound recordings. This eventually led to an involvement in numerous bands and projects in her home town. “Mainly pop and jazz bands that made music I would not want to listen to myself.” she says. Fed up with the resulting frustrations, she abandoned them all in 2019 in order to concentrate on music she really did want to listen to. Working in the studio she had set up in her laundry room, inspiration swiftly flowed, leading to the release of the above mentioned cassettes, and – totally unexpectedly – an ever-increasing number of live shows, often in unorthodox venues like art galleries, gardens, house parties – and a caravan.

“Leoni Leoni” contains a selection of the best tracks from the four limited edition cassettes. Dreamy in mood and featherlight in sound, Leoni Leonis’s music is unashamedly synthetic, sort of like an ethereal version of Brian Wilson’s most playful moments combined with a Klaus Johan Grobe/Broadcast aesthetic.
