Muddy Monk is the “Ultra Dramatic Kid”
The strangely named Muddy Monk – aka singer/songwriter Guillaume Dietrich – is a chansonnier with a penchant for languid melancholy and leafy electronica sounds. 1 April 2022 saw the release of his second album, “Ultra Dramatic Kid”, via the Paris-based independent label Half Awake.
“Ultra Dramatic Kid” marks a big step forward, artistically, for Dietrich. Clearly a believer in strong vocal melodies and hooks, he combines these with glitchy computer beats, distorted guitar noise, sweeping 80s synth chords, digital trumpets and other peculiar ingredients. The results are just a little disconcerting and rather beguiling.
