Cégiu Revelling in “Glowing Goodbyes”
It is most definitely an intriguing title that cellist Cégiu has given to her new album, her third: “Glowing Goodbyes”. It was released on 19 November 2021 by Musicbox Entertainment in collaboration with Irascible Music. “A parting of ways isn’t a unique and abruptly ending process for me”, she explains. “A parting always leaves an afterglow behind. This is the message of the title as well as the music of this album.”
Shimmering computer strings, organic cello, a keyboard that sounds like a church organ, 80s electro pop choruses, near-operatic choirs, whispered vocals, beats digitally crafted from the sounds made by insects around the graves of lost loved ones, and a wall of sound containing up to 60 Ableton tracks – the elements making up “Glowing Goodbyes” certainly are unusual. Lucerne-based Cégiu describes herself as a “musician/producer/composer” bringing together “electronica, strings and vocals with a pop sensibility”. She produced “Glowing Goodbyes” herself in collaboration with Brooklyn-based producer Aaron Nevezie (Jojo Mayer’s Nerve, Mouchette, Brad Mehldau, etc.). Oh, and her homepage also contains a cookery and a garden page!
