Who’s there? Hey, it’s Sam Himself!

The mysteriously named Sam Himself is, in fact, a Swiss expatriate singer/songwriter in Brooklyn, New York.

After a string of singles that easily reached six-figure numbers of youtube clicks, and the Swiss “Best Talent Award” bestowed on him by SRF, the national Swiss radio and tv station, he is at last ready to release his debut album. It is inexplicably called “Power Ballads” and comes out on 8 October 2021 via Taxi Gauche Records/Cargo. We say “inexplicably”, because we haven’t discovered a single actual power ballad on the album! Instead, Sam Himself has developed an elegant musical style located somewhere between 80s synth pop à la Orchestral Maneuvres in the Dark and – in terms of vocal melodies at least – Bruce Springsteen, with perhaps a splash of 1990s Etienne Daho thrown in. It’s an oddly beguiling and catchy mixture, for sure.
