Pablo Infernal Climb Mount Angeles

Zurich-based quartet Pablo Infernal have managed to land quite a coup with this, their third album! “Mount Angeles” was mixed in Los Angeles by the legendary Chris Lord-Alge (Aerosmith, Muse, Green Day, etc.) and given its final sheen by Bill Skibbe in Jack White’s Third Man Mastering Studio in Detroit. “Mount Angeles” as released on 17 September 2021 on vinyl, CD and digital via Taxi Gauche Records.

Any band listing Kula Shaker as a major influence – next to the Beatles, of course – don’t quite see the world from a conventional perspective. And so it proves. “Mount Angeles” is a proper rock beast of an album, driven by one full-bodied riff after another, roared on by a vocalist clearly raised on Free and Purple, but also garnished with some positively choirboy-like harmonies (witness their Beatle-ish single “Sunshine”) and laced with a hefty dose of wit (see the beautifully psychedelic “Ancient Aliens”, complete with a deeply post-modern chant of “ohm ohm ohm”). And herein lies the most enjoyable aspect of this young band: they’re not afraid of mixing up their genres and do the unexpected.
