Onetwothree, Let’s Go!

That’s right, Onetwothree is the band name, and it’s also the title of their debut album. It’s out on 15 October 2021, and the fact that it’s on American label Kill Rock Stars should tell you that this is nothing like your run-of-the-mill revivalist nostalgia punk combo.

Onetwothree are Klaudia Schifferle, Sara Schär and Madlaina Peer. All of them play the bass, and all of them were part of the raucous Zurich punk scene of the late 1970s/early 1980s. Schifferle is probably the best-known of the trio outside Switzerland. She was a co-founder of one of Kurt Cobain’s favourite bands, Kleenex aka LiLiPUT (and she is also a painter, sculptor and illustrator). Sara Schär was the singer of TNT, The Kick, Souldawn, and Jailbreak. Madlaina Peer played bass for a variety of local outfits in Zurich. Meeting up for a chat in 2018, they decided it would be fun to have a band consisting of only bass players. On their debut album, however, they do play other instruments, too! This is what the supercool NY indie platform Brooklyn Vegan had to say: “ONETWOTHREE make skeletal DIY post-punk that draws on the influential music they each made with their former groups. If you are a fan of Kleenex/LiLiPUT you’ll definitely want to hear the album’s opening track, “Perfect Illusions”, that is twitchy, poppy and danceable”.
